Events
Each month, we present a program of interest to our members and their guests. This page contains a list of upcoming programs including the speaker, topic, and sponsor(s). For more information about any program or to suggest a topic that might be of interest to our members, please contact Janet Laswell
at 515-9085 or Betty Kuehne at 861-1595 or 463-9313. Each attendee must RSVP at least one week prior to the next scheduled meeting.
Sponsorship Information: One or two sponsors provide lunch for approximately 60 people
and are allowed 10 minutes to talk about their agency / business (5 minutes each if there are two sponsors).
If you are interested in being a lunch sponsor, please call Janet Laswell at
515-9085.
Speaker Information:
One or more speakers present "generic" information about a topic for approximately 45 minutes. Speakers do not promote their own services or products.

Kim O'Roark, Recreation Through the Ages
Kim O'Roark has been a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for 20 years.
She received her Therapeutic Recreation degree, with a minor in Psychology, from
the University of New Mexico. She has worked in psychiatric and educational
settings as well as many different types of senior communities. Kim is also the
founder and owner of Recreation Through the Ages, which helps educate and
train people in various health related topics including helping to increase self esteem,
team building and patient advocacy.
Kim has been certified through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation
Certification (NCTRC) as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and the
National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) as a Certified
Alzheimer's and Dementia Instructor and a Certified Dementia Practitioner.
She is also a long standing member of the American Therapeutic Recreation
Association (ATRA). |

Karen Sopko,
MD, NM Heart Institute
A native New Mexican, Dr. Sopko received her undergraduate degree in biology from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO, and her medical degree from University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
Before joining NMHI, Dr. Sopko practiced with Albuquerque Health Partners, serving for a time as interim Cardiology
Department Chair. Fluent in Conversational Navajo, two of Dr. Sopko’s long term goals are to raise awareness of heart disease and prevention among Native Americans and to encourage Native youth to achieve their goals in the healthcare field. She
is also active with American Heart Association’s ”Go Red For Women” campaign. |

Annual Holiday Party - Evening
We would appreciate it if all attendees would bring a raffle item for the holiday party
to benefit our community education fund.
